Abstract

Optimal PMU placement (OPP) was developed to determine the number and locations of PMUs on the premise of full observability of whole network. In order to enhance reliability under contingencies, redundancy should also be considered besides the number of PMUs in the OPP problem. Thus, in this paper, a multi-objective model is established to minimize the number of PMUs and maximize the redundancy simultaneously. The redundancy here is formulated as average possibility of observability (APO) considering random component outages, and full possibility formula is applied to calculate the APO value in the case of single line outage. Finally, the model is employed to IEEE-24 bus system, and the results verify that the developed model can provide a placement scheme with higher reliability.
