Remotely Controlled Experiments on the Basis of Raspberry Pi and openHAB

Abstract

The paper deals with the development a solution based on the integration of the open-source software and the low-cost hardware for the remotely controlled laboratories. Today the remote laboratories are mainly located in one space and use powerful but very expensive hardware and software appliance. This paper is an attempt to combine modern Internet of Things (IoT) technologies with the Arduino ready-made boards, which will make it possible to design the remote labs that do not require the very complex solutions and the highly professional staff for support. Consequently, this solution is the flexible and cost-effective in terms of its installation and operation. The paper discusses the hardware and the software part of the remote controlled laboratories. It proposes the platform for the remote controlled scientific and educational experiments based on the low-costs microcontrollers and the options for the implementation of its software.
