Abstract

Considering the fact that technology has the capability to bridge the gap between visually impaired people and the rest, it is necessary to make optimum utilization of the same. A mobile application should serve mainly three aspects viz. ease, privacy and security. The proposed Android based mobile application: DRISHTI - The eyes for blind, aims to provide a confluence of the aforementioned properties. There are several applications already existing which cater to a specific facility but there is a lack of a solitary source that can suffice to all the requirements. DRISHTI focuses on creating an exclusive platform which binds all the separate services as one along with some unique features which the other applications do not have. The main features of DRISHTI include use of hand gestures to navigate to the desired module, currency recognition module, object recognition module, private chat room, customized phone book, accessing emergency contacts via hand gestures, customized keyboard with audio support, getting current location and date and time.
