Real Time Image Processing System for Crop Segmentation

Abstract

With the growth of remote-sensing technology, remote-sensing image processing plays an important role in different application areas, such as geological exploration and prevention from natural disaster. Normally, remote-sensing data are downlinked to the ground station, then preprocessed, and distributed towards users. This process is time consuming. Therefore a real time processing system is required. This paper proposed combination of hardware and software tools for image processing as well as for vegetation indices calculations. First FPGA is used as a hardware tool to read image. We have applied three image processing algorithms with the help of Xilinx s software. Second, for the crop segmentation we developed a website, in which we have calculated vegetation indices NDVI, SAVI, OSAVI. The experimental results demonstrate that the system not only meets real time requirements but also gives a new approach for vegetation indices calculations.
