Enhancement of Bit Error Rate Performance of Wideband System Using Principal Component Analysis by Extraction of Strongest Multi-path

Abstract

This paper uses a mathematical technique named principal component analysis (PCA). It is mainly used for channel estimation to extract the strongest multi-path in a wideband system from the multipath environment to enhance bit error rate (BER) performance. The multi-paths can be treated like frequency diversity. The resolution of multi-paths results in the diversity gain of the system. The working of the presented technique has been demonstrated using a rake receiver. The presented technique is simulated and tested for up to four multi-paths on each transmit and receive pair of different systems such as single input single output (SISO), single input multiple output (SIMO) or maximal ratio receiver combining (MRRC) and multiple input multiple output (MIMO). The Space time block coding (STBC) is used for transmission of data at transmitter in multiple input multiple output system. The simulation results using MATLAB as simulation tool depict that the proposed technique is well capable of increasing the BER performance of a wideband system having multi-paths in multi-path environment.
