Numerical Modelling of Biomass Combustion on Moving Grates

 
 
 

Abstract


Moving-grate combustion provides the opportunity to fire biomass fuels with different properties. Description of the moving bed combustion is required for optimum operation of moving grate furnaces. Numerical modelling of moving grate processes has attracted the attention of researchers due to difficulties and costs associated with experimental work on full scale moving grate furnaces. This paper presents Eulerian formulation of packed bed biomass combustion on moving grate. The grate movement is directly included into the model through boundary conditions while full coupling between biomass bed and the freeboard presents, being the originality of the research.
