Modeling of regulated power systems based on the Electromechanical Energy Approach for assessing small signal stability

Abstract

Based on the Electromechanical Energy Approach, this paper presents a modeling method for assessing power system oscillatory modes of regulated systems. The method reduces power system model complexity and allows a better fitting for system oscillation modes, both very welcome features whenever one wants an accurate and suitable model for designing power system controllers. An exemplary power system is used to verify the feasibility of the method for three different cases (with only AVR, with AVR and governor, and with AVR, governor and PSS), where it is shown that the presented modeling has the intrinsic ability of fitting also the low frequencies of the system due to the tuning of the damning parameters.
