Performance Analysis of Different Level Modular Multilevel Converters

 
 

Abstract


This paper deals with the comparison of the different output levels of three phase modular multilevel converter [MMC]. The analysis of three level, five level and nine level MMC is performed by considering THD (total harmonic distortion) of output voltage and current with 2N+1 level PD-PWM switching strategy. Simulation of all levels of MMC is done in MATLAB/SIMULINK and the results are presented. It is found that THD of voltage and current are less in 9 level MMC. In addition, prototype of the three level MMC with redundant switching is developed in the laboratory and results are presented.
