Static Coordinate Estimation Techniques Based on Satellite Navigation
Abstract
Global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) play a crucial role in applications such as precise farming, mining, aviation and safety of life systems. GNSS systems transmit satellites position and clock data to receiver in order to compute user position. Ground segment of GNSS system plays a vital role in determining the orbit of the GNSS satellites and in turn it affects the user position. Thus computation of precise coordinates plays a vital role in establishment of ground reference stations. There are conventional and advanced techniques in this area using satellite navigation systems to achieve results in a defined time. In this paper we present the comparative analysis of the four methods, two of which are using post processing techniques namely Differential GNSS and Precise point positioning (PPP), and the other two are using real time techniques namely real time PPP and real time kinematic (RTK) for position computation. Based on the results obtained it is observed that the selection of particular method depends on factors like in what time frame the coordinates are required (immediate or few days), the accuracy levels required for the computed coordinates (decimeter, centimeter) and fund availability for the mission (with subscription or without subscription). The coordinates are computed using all these above discussed methods and the results are compared.
