Interleaved Voltage-Doubler Boost PFC With Coupled Inductor

Abstract

Boost power factor corrector (PFC) is widely used in various electronic devices due to its advantages of high efficiency, simple structure, low input current ripple and low conduction loss. However, the applications of the conventional boost structure are gradually limited as the output power demand is continuously increasing. In this paper, an interleaved voltage-doubler boost PFC with coupled inductor is proposed. It has the advantages of high efficiency, high power factor and low harmonics. The proposed interleaved control strategy not only retains the advantages of traditional single-phase boost converters, but also reduces the volumes of energy storage inductor, output capacitor and EMI chopper at high output power. A coupled inductor is used to reduce the weight of the converter. The voltage doubled capacitors are alternately charged through a two-phase interleaving operation. Therefore, the voltage gain of the proposed converter is twice that of the conventional interleaved converter and it is suitable for high voltage applications.
