Design of a Small Planar CPW-Fed Ultra-wideband Antenna

Abstract

In this paper, we design a compact transceiver integrated ultra-wideband antenna that works in the 1 to 3 GHz band. The antenna is based on a printed planar monopole antenna and adopts the coplanar waveguide for feeding, which is more easy to process and achieve broadband impedance matching. The Arlon (AD1000) dielectric substrate material with a dielectric constant of 10.2 is reasonably selected. The main radiator structure is designed as an equilateral triangle. The metal-ground synergistic radiation structure is introduced to further improve the overall radiation performance of the antenna. The overall size of the antenna is $72\\text{mm}\\times 56\\text{mm}\\times 13\\text{mm}$. The simulation and test results show that the VSWR(Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) is less than 3 and the HPBW(Half-power Beamwidth) is greater than 100 degrees in the 1 to 3 GHz band, and the far-field radiation pattern of the antenna has better consistency.
