Laboratory Based Automotive Radar for Mobile Targets Ranging

Abstract

In this paper we have designed a laboratory based automotive radar operated in X-band for accurate range measurement of moving pedestrian targets. In this design we have generated linearly frequency modulated (LFM) chirp signals using ramp generating circuit. The received chirp signals from the mobile targets are sampled and stored in a data matrix. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is performed along rows of the data matrix to obtain the range time intensity profile of the mobile targets. We have obtained range time intensity profiles for single person and two persons moving towards and away from the radar and simulated the range-doppler map in MATLAB environment.
