Wind Power System Design with Seventy-two Pulse Rectifier for Water Pumping Applications

Abstract

This work demonstrates a wind power system design for water pumping applications in isolated and remote areas. The proposed design involves wind turbines, asynchronous generator, three-phase AC to DC rectifier (power circuit part), voltage regulator (power circuit part), and DC motors that drive centrifugal pumps. The used AC to DC rectifier is a 72-pulse rectifier that involves two transformers and two diode bridges (six diodes for each bridge) in order to reduce the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the main and transformer currents and enhance the output DC voltage. The proposed wind water pumping system is demonstrated using MATLAB and Simulink to show the performance of the proposed system.
