Joint Radar-Communication System Design via FH Code Selection and PSK Modulation
Abstract
A joint radar-communication system is an integrated platform which implements radar and communication function simultaneously. This duality provides an effective way to alleviate the problem of increasingly tensive spectrum congestion. In this paper, we consider a dual functional signal designing method for a joint system embedding communication information into radar radiation. Contrary to previous waveform design methods that embed communication symbols on permutations of frequency-hopping (FH) codes, the proposed information-embedding scheme utilizes the FH code selection and phase shift keying (PSK) modulation jointly to accomplish waveform diversity. Benefiting from the joint implementation of frequency modulation and phase modulation within each subpulse, the proposed scheme greatly increases the bandwidth efficiency. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed information-embedding scheme achieves a high data transmission rate and shows great symbol error performance at the expense of radar performance.
