System Identification Based Parameter Identification of Responding Type Ship Motion Model
Abstract
The paper concerns parameter identification of a responding ship motion model for a full-scale ship under the framework of system identification (SI) principles. Several groups of full-scale maneuvering experiments have been implemented to collect research data. A linear responding ship motion model is selected for analysis, and specifically identification of two parameters of the model becomes the research topic. Based on the error criterion in SI theory, a Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) based search process is used for parameter identification under the principle of minimizing the sum of squares due to error (SSE). The accuracy of the estimated values is checked by comparing the simulated ship motion (model output using identified parameters) and the full-scale ship maneuvering trial record (ship output by measurement). The feasibility and availability of the developed strategy are verified by using a case study. It is concluded that the proposed strategy can provide technical support for full-scale ship motion modeling.
