The Design and Implementation of Intelligent Bedpan for Bedridden Patients

Abstract

This paper describes the design and implementation of an intelligent bedpan for bedridden patients. It consists of three parts; 1) Bedpan Subsystem, 2) The Main Control Subsystem, and 3) The Human-Machine Interaction Subsystem. The working parameters of the system enter through the graphical interface of the touch LCD of the toilet, and can also be monitored remotely through mobile phones. Spontaneously, the intelligent bedpan detects and collects feces and urine. It cleans, washes and dries patient’s genitals and buttocks automatically. Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) system controls and regulates temperature to ensure the accuracy of temperature for patient comfort. Practice shows it enormously improves patient comfort and reduces caregivers’ workload.
