Design and Performance Analysis of Broadband Doherty Power Amplifier for 5G Communication System

Abstract

This work reported a broadband Doherty power amplifier (DPA) with high power added efficiency that meets the requirements of modern 5G communication applications. The proposed DPA is designed by removing the offset line behind the main amplifier that leads to size compactness as well as wide bandwidth. The gallium nitride (GaN) device is chosen as the main and auxiliary amplifier for the designing process. The simulation results show that the peak power added efficiency (PAE) between 50-65% and PAE at 6dB backoff is between 35-52% from 3.3-4.2 GHz frequency band. Additionally, the saturated output power of 42-43.6 dBm and an average gain of 10.5 dB is achieved for 900 Mhz bandwidth. The value of inter modulation distortion (IMD3) is below 30dBc for the desired frequency band.
