Performance Comparison of Active and Passive LVRT strategies for Grid Connected PV Systems
Abstract
The integration of the PV systems into the electric power grid has many challenges. One of these challenges is to disconnect PV inverters from the grid due to excessive DC-link voltage. This may lead to stability problems in the power network. To avoid the dc-link overvoltage problem, passive and active Low Voltage Ride-Through (LVRT) control strategies have been proposed in literature. This paper focusses on the performance comparison of passive LVRT schemes such as the DC Braking Chopper (BC) with active LVRT scheme, ‘Divert the MPPT operation’ (D-MPPT) during the fault. The performance of various LVRT strategies has been evaluated through simulation of a grid connected PV system connected with multi-machine power system.
