Transformer Apparent Age Estimation Based on Probabilistic Health Index

Abstract

This paper proposes a new solution for estimating the apparent age of a transformer from its probabilistic health index results. The apparent age can not only reflect the overall health condition of a transformer, but also helps to rank a single transformer among a fleet depending on its real performance. It provides references for utility managers to prior transformers and focus on those units which apparent age beyond the average and help them to pick up the transformer with the poorest health condition, thus helps to schedule unit replacement or retirement more scientifically.
