Modelling the Fluorescence Optical Imaging Sequence Data of Rheumatic Hands with a 1D Hydrodynamic Flow Model

Abstract

We demonstrate the application of a conceptually simple 1D hydrodynamic flow model to the analysis of fluorescence optical imaging (FOI) sequence data. This time-dependent data series in particular can be accurately described by our approach over the whole time domain. The method was used to fit dynamic FOI data of 147 patients, who were diagnosed with early arthritis. Visual inspection of the results showed no apparent failure. The overall fitting-error was determined as the 80th percentile of the relative accuracy. This value r80=0.066 shows that our fitting procedure describes the data in a precise manner. Following the basic assumptions of the model should enable other researchers in future application scenarios to describe FOI data in a similar manner.
