Rotor Parameter Independent Carrier Space Vector Modulated Direct Torque Control of Induction Motor

Abstract

The high torque ripple of direct torque controlled (DTC) induction motors drives can be minimized by incorporating space vector modulation into DTC drives (DTCSVPWM). However, it destroys the simplicity of DTC scheme and the general DTC-SVPWM schemes heavily depend on the rotor parameters which increase the parameter dependency of the drive. Furthermore, the induction motor rotor parameters needed for DTC-SVPWM drive are not readily available. In this work, a new control algorithm is developed, which does not dependent on rotor parameters for realization of DTCSVPWM and a simple carrier based space vector PWM (CSVPWM) is used for realizing the space vector modulation. The CSVPWM technique significantly reduces the mathematical steps involved. Simulation results are compared with conventional DTC-SVPWM drive to understand the potency of the new drive scheme. Hardware results are also presented to validate the proposed control scheme.
