A miniaturized ultra-wide band sinusoidal antenna with circular polarization for S, C, X bands

Abstract

In this paper, a wide band sinusoidal antenna with small size is designed. These type of antennas are used in pulse radars and ultra-wideband systems like direction finders or threat detector radars, and one of their advantages is that they receive all polarization. The proposed antenna is designed on a board with two pairs of arms with the ability of receiving all polarizations. A small balloon with the same level of the antenna is also considered for matching impedance which is an important factor in miniaturization of the entire sinusoidal antenna design. The antenna has been designed and optimized with balloons in S, C and part of X bands on Rogers RT/Duroid substrate and have been simulated with CST softwares. It has 4-18 GHz bandwidth and 5.8 dB gain which outperforms similar works.
