Optimal Repetition Rate for Maximal Coverage
Abstract
A vast adoption of wireless Internet of Things (IoT) network calls for reliable connectivity to support these large numbers of low-cost devices. The approach of frame-repetition is proposed by many IoT technologies to enhance the reliability in terms of coverage probability of wireless links. While the repetition scheme improves the chances of successful transmission, it usually leads to elevated interference levels and thus requires careful planning and analysis. This letter presents a mathematical model to optimize the repetition rate and maximize the average success probability across a cell. The proposed framework utilizes tools from stochastic geometry to capture the performance of the frame-repetition scheme in a single cell scenario. Both analytic and Monte-Carlo simulations show a high-degree of matching, indicating the plausibility of the proposed approach.
