Advanced Control Techniques for an Interconnected Multi Area Power System for Load Frequency Control

Abstract

this paper investigated the load frequency control (LFC) for three areas wind-thermal-hydro interconnected power plants. Many testes are recorded and analyzed at different types of controllers like fuzzy self-tuned proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller, fuzzy self-tuned fractional order (PID) controller, relative rate observer self-tuned fuzzy (PID) controller and relative rate observer self-tuned fuzzy (FOPID) controller. These types of controllers have been implemented on the proposed system under objective function of Integral Time Absolute Error (ITAE). A comparison is made for the outputs of the different types of he controllers in order to suggest an adequate controller that has the smallest values of the settling time and peak over shoot. The aim of LFC is to get frequency and tie line power back to its rated value in a very small time at different operating conditions. Simulation results of the system are obtained under a step load disturbance of (1%) in the second area (thermal area).
