Long-term Energy Analysis of a Wastewater Treatment Plant with Biogas Production-Case Analysis
Abstract
The energy consumption of a high-capacity wastewater treatment plant (up to 900,000 $\\mathrm{m}^{3}$ wastewater/month), equipped with biogas production and energy recovery installations, was analyzed via long-term monitoring (76 months). The recorded data during the monitoring period show that the total active electricity (EE) consumption of 8,130,324 MWh (at an average power factor of 83.81%) was provided 48.4% from the electricity network, 51.41% from biogas, and 0.19% from the Safety Diesel generator. The specific global energy consumption recorded was 0.213 kWh/m3 treated wastewater, where the share of consumption related to biological aerobic and anaerobic processing stages is predominant (62.17%).
