Student Contest Coorganized by IEEE SSCS Tunisia Chapter [Chapters]

Abstract

TThe IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS) Tunisia Chapter coorganized the first edition of the annual 3 Questions, 3 Diapositives, 3 Minute (3Q3D3M) student contest on 24 April 2019 at the National School of Electronics and Communications of Sfax, Tunisia. Contest participants included Ph.D. students from local Tunisian universities in the final phase of their theses. During this first edition of the 3Q3D3M contest, students were asked to deliver short talks to spark a layperson’s interest in their Ph.D. research. They answered three questions about the choice of their Ph.D. subject, the way it was approached, and its impact on the real world. They were permitted to use only three slides in a maximum of 3 min. The main idea of this challenge was to prepare Ph.D. students for the international contest “My Thesis in 180 Seconds.” The evaluation process was conducted based on feedback from the judges, including a scientific committee, researchers from academia, invited guests from industry, and a large number of students. Members of the scientific committee presented certificates to the 3Q3D3M contest participants and winners. The first edition of this annual 3Q3D3M contest was a huge success; 24 Ph.D. students participated, and more than 100 attendees filled the amphitheater to listen to the students talk.
