Slippery coated Implantable flexible microelectrode array (fMEA) for High-Performance Neural Interface

Abstract

This study presents a novel approach of slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS) on the flexible microelectrode array (fMEA) for chronic neural interface with the advantage of reduced cell adhesion. In the demonstration, fMEA was microfabricated on the polyimide (PI) substrate, and Platinum (Pt) gray was used to create the porous nanocone structure for infusing the silicone oil. The combination of Pt gray and slippery oil layer has remained the low impedance level favorable for the neural stimulation and recording applications. The cytotoxicity study also shows that the coating does not have any cytotoxic potentiality; hence is biocompatible for human implantation.
