Evaluation on Renewable Energy Integration Capability Considering Heat and Power Coupling

Abstract

Renewable energy is curtailed due to its large-scale and centralized development in China, especially in northern China where combined heat and power (CHP) units is widely used to provide heat for residents. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate renewable energy integration capability (REIC) of power system and to quantify the impact of its influence factors. In this paper, a novel method is proposed to evaluate REIC of power system considering heat and power coupling. Thermoelectric coupling of CHP units and electric boilers (EBs) are described by linear constraints. Based on these constraints, a model is established to maximize REIC by coordinated operation of different units. Quantitative indices and an algorithm based on simulation approach are proposed to calculate REIC and to quantify the contribution of influence factors to REIC. Test studies by using an actual power system demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.
