A Reliability Model for Incorporating Equipment Aging Failures in Reliability Assessment of Customer Delivery Systems

Abstract

This paper describes a simple reliability model for integrating equipment aging failures in the reliability assessment of customer delivery systems. The reliability model is composed of two components connected in series: one representing random failures and the other representing aging failures. The reliability indices of the 1st component are evaluated using the outage history of the component while the indices associated with the 2nd component are estimated with the help of some probability methods. The proposed reliability model is general and can be used to evaluate the impacts of component aging failures on reliabilities of transmission and distribution systems. The model is used in this paper to evaluate the effects of component aging failures on the reliability of one of Hydro One s customer delivery systems.
