Design of a Compact UWB Monopole Antenna with Slotted Patches
Abstract
A double layer printed compact UWB monopole antenna with modified patches is proposed in this paper. Slots and shorted strip line are used to increase the bandwidth of monopole antenna. At first, in order to increase the bandwidth, two U-shaped slots and a narrow slit are etched on the top patch, and a shorted strip line is added between the bottom patch and the ground. Therefore, the above designs can make the monopole patch antenna with a characteristic of wideband that simulated S11 (−10 dB) is 2.5 GHz (3.4–5.9 GHz). Second, the high frequency bandwidth from 5.9 to 9.9 GHz can be further enhanced by changing the straight slit into meander slit. The proposed antenna has a compact size of 26 × 19 × 1 mm3, which can be applied to UWB systems.
