Active Fault Tolerant Control for HVAC System Based on GIMC and Feedforward Compensation

Abstract

In this paper, a high performance active fault-tolerant control (AFTC) method based on generalized internal model control (GIMC) and feed-forward compensation is developed. Firstly, the multiplicative actuator fault is estimated in real time by the use of the adaptive technology, and then the robustification controller of GIMC is constructed based on the obtained fault information to restrain the impact of these faults. Then the feed-forward compensation unit is designed to guarantee that the system can work as the fault-free situation. The advantages of the control structure are as follows: when the system is nominal, the robustification controller and feed-forward compensation unit are not activated, and the system is controlled by the performance controller to ensure high performance; When the fault occurs, the robustification controller and feed-forward compensation unit can accurately make a compensation for the effects brought by those faults, and make it recover to the fault- free performance quickly. Finally, a HVAC system is chosen to verify the superiority of the new AFTC structure.
