Bi-stable Shape Memory Alloy Actuated Switch for Smart PV Skin
Abstract
In the light of recent innovations in the field of photovoltaics, a novel concept of non-planar smart photovoltaic skin is being studied. This smart PV skin consists of individual PV cells that are grouped in into clusters called pixels in response to environmental changes through the use of miniature switches embedded within the PV skin. This paper proposes a design concept for a shape memory alloy actuated switch suitable for such application. Analysis and prototyping of the proposed design concept are also discussed as part of this work.
