Analysis of Sliding Electromagnetic Coupling Parameters in a PLC Automation System

Abstract

The sliding electromagnetic coupling is used in crankshaft control, dynamometer, starting and braking devices for the drive mechanisms of pumps, pumps, compressors, and fans. Electromagnetic clutch couplings solve the problem of silent starting, limiting torque, and remote control of clutch and engine disengagement, progressive variation of output shaft speed. The sliding electromagnetic coupling operation can occur at constant torque or at constant power. These regimens are obtained by the corresponding variation of the excitation current. The paper presents the operation and analysis of parameters in constant torque regime. The test bench contains three-phase electric drive, sliding electromagnetic coupler, sliding electromagnetic brake and PLC control part, frequency converter and HMI operator panel. The torque is measured using a weight sensor connected to an ARDUINO development board that supplies an analogue value in the 0-10V range for an analog input of the PLC. The results are shown on HMI device and the PLC programming is done in Siemens TIA Portal. The communication between sensor speed and PLC is realized by PROFIBUS-DP protocol.
