Performance of MIMO MMSE Receiver with Signal Space Diversity Under Channel Estimation Errors

Abstract

In this work, signal space diversity (SSD) is integrated into a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) minimum mean-square error (MMSE) receiver system. Differing from previous many related studies, coordinate interleaving (CI) process is applied in the spatial domain. For the sake of practicality, a scenario with no channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter and imperfect CSI at the receiver is assumed. After an application of CI, multiple modulated symbols are transmitted in a parallel fashion from the transmit antennas and beamforming is implemented at the receiver based on the estimated CSI. It is shown that without using extra bandwidth or time resources and without causing an important complexity increase, the error performance of MIMO MMSE receiver system can be improved considerably with the inclusion of SSD.
