Diagnosis of Unbalanced and Open-Circuited Faults in 3-phase Uncontrolled Rectifier as a part of the Grid-tied Wind turbine

Abstract

The 3-phase uncontrolled rectifier is an integral part of the small grid-tied wind turbine. In this paper, a signal based fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) technique has been presented. This FDD considers the OC and unbalanced faults of the rectifier used in wind turbines. To identify the exact location of a fault, the proposed FDD considers the Fourier series for the calculation of different harmonic components of the rectified voltage. The novelty of this work lies in the design of the auxiliary circuit and the selection of thresholds used for FDD. To evaluate the effectiveness of proposed FDD, it has implemented on a Simulink model consists of the grid-connected wind turbine as well as on the hardware set-up.
