Calculation of Electromagnetic Scattering From an Inhomogeneous Sphere
Abstract
This paper presents a finite-element method (FEM), based on a new set of vector basis functions, for an efficient solution of the electromagnetic scattering problem from a continuously varying inhomogeneous sphere. The new bases lead to a large number of similar terms in the entries of the finite-element matrix and make the interaction between the inner and outer field expansions’ diagonal. The method is compared with a tetrahedral-based FEM, and the efficiency of the method is investigated through some numerical examples.
