Abstract

The high temperature superconducting (HTS) Bitter magnet soldered by REBCO annular plates with grooves we proposed recently has the advantage of small size, strong magnetic field, etc. The current distribution of the Bitter magnet can be controlled by adjusting the area of the soldering joint. In this paper, the AC loss of the HTS Bitter magnet during the charging process is numerically analyzed. The results show that the AC loss of the HTS Bitter magnet during a field ramp depends strongly on the magnetic field and the magnetic field angle between the magnetic field and the annular plate thus leading to the maximum AC loss in the regions with the small radius of the HTS Bitter magnet.
