An Internal Benchmarking Efficiency Evaluation of a Brazilian Electrical Distributor Using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA): A Case of Study

Abstract

Electricity distribution is an essential service where the efficiency of the service provided can have a significant impact on consumers daily lives. This paper presents a model developed using the techniques Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to evaluate the efficiency of the field service units in electric power distributors. In this study is proposing a new metric for efficiency analysis integrating the OEE and DEA. To achieve the proposed goal, a case study is carried out at an electric energy distributor. A comparative analysis was conducted with the results obtained through the use of the model OEE/DEA compared with the results of the OEE. The efficiency measured with the use of the model OEE/DEA shows differences concerning the results of the OEE. From these differences, it was observed that the field service units that were considered more efficient by the OEE did not obtain the same result by the model OEE/DEA.
