Light Propagation Characteristics of a Tapered Double Clad LMA Fiber with Near Diffraction Limited Output
Abstract
A fiber taper based mode-field adaptor (MFA) and pump coupling component have been designed to transmit signal and cladding pump power in between single mode fiber and double clad large mode area fiber (DC-LMA) avoiding mode field mismatch and coupling loss. The signal and cladding power transmission has been characterized for a tapered DC-LMA for a set of taper lengths and angles. The designed MFA of taper length of 12 mm is having a near diffraction limited beam of M2 ~ 1.023 along with efficient signal transmission.
