A Study of Tea Leaf Verification by Feature-based Image Recognition Approach with Smart Glasses

 
 
 
 
 

Abstract


Tea drinking has been promoted throughout the world on notions of its health benefits. Although drinking tea is popular and widely accepted, identification of tea types and its characteristics are very difficult for amateurs. In addition, identification of tea origin leaf and history is almost impossible without experienced professional’s help. This study issues a visual recognition application for portable devices, integrating the smart glasses. By using the device with the application, an image of tea leaf can be captured by a camera located on smart glasses and the technology will provide information about the tea leaf. The morphology image recognition algorithm is used to verify the tea name from the database in the cloud-computing system, which also provides the history and details about the identified tea leaf. Meanwhile, the established application incorporates the encyclopedia of tea leaf with visual technology shown in the smart glasses. This study allows the “non-professional” tea growers to have the knowledge to analyze and understand a tea leaf when one sees it.
