A Device to Detect Hyperbilirubin through Non-Invasive Technique

Abstract

Hyperbilirubinemia is due to rise in the amount of bilirubin concentration in the body. A technique that can easily detect Jaundice through non-invasive method is presented. The bilirubin detection system begins with the projection of blue light (450-500nm) from LED on the skin in dark surrounding. The reflected light from the skin is measured by photodiode and the data obtained is sent to the microcontroller. The voltage values of the reflected light are proportional to the concentration of the bilirubin. This data is further processed by microcontroller and the level of the bilirubin (severity of Jaundice) is displayed on LCD. This method can be implemented for early and instant detection of Jaundice in Neonates as well as in adults without any physical pain.
