Performance Analysis of PID Control Loops in Desalination Process using LabVIEW

Abstract

Desalination is the prominent solution to satisfy the drinking water requirement around the globe due to the misuse of freshwater. The process of reducing the water salt content to a permissible limit is known as water desalination. Most literature explains the performance of PID control loop using steady state models. This work explains the use of developed dynamic simulator of reverse osmosis desalination process based on simplified functional decomposition approach to analyze the servo and regulatory performance of different PID loops to control the permeate flow rate. A virtual instrument (VI) is developed using the Control Design and Simulation (CDSim) toolkit in LabVIEW 2011 environment to analyze the controller performance for different operating conditions.
