Applications of AI for Power Electronics and Drives Systems: A Review
Abstract
Tools of Artificial Intelligence (AI) like Fuzzy Logic (FL), Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and some other like Genetic Algorithm (GA) etc. have brought gyration in power electronics systems. The target of AI is to catalyze intelligence in system so that it can adapt to changes automatically. Advance problems can be simply resolved by AI techniques which are troublesome to solve by other means. The fuzzy controller is extensively utilized in converters, controllers, ac, dc and reluctance motor drives, PWM inverters, and plenty of other applications. The neural network has been utilized in rectifier regulator. Expert systems are used for training algorithms used in automation systems. This paper contains an overview and introduction to above described tools and their applications in Harmonic detection and elimination, Current source inverters, Power electronics expert Systems, Photovoltaic systems etc. Recent development of powerful FPGAs and DSPs is creating practical implementation of fuzzy and neural systems more economics friendly with improvement of quality performance.
