Credible Capacity of Wind-PV-Storage System considering Regional Climate Features
Abstract
Large scale off-shore wind farms are being constructed or planned in south-east coastal areas of China. As the installed capacity of wind power increases, it is more necessary to assess the credible generation capacity of the wind farms in order to achieve more efficient generation planning. This paper proposes a new approach to evaluate the credible capacity of wind farms, wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) system, and wind-PV-storage system. Based on the climate features in south-east coastal area of China, it is observed that although the overall solar resource is moderate, PV may contribute significantly more credible capacity than wind, especially during peak load periods in summer. Besides, the wind-PV-storage system would effectively improve the credible capacity of the renewables so that the requirement to the conventional generation capacity could be reduced.
