Control Approach to Improve the Power Quality for Effective Utilization of Single Phase Induction Generator

Abstract

This paper presents the control performance for power quality improvement thereby effective utilization of single-phase two winding self excited induction generator which is used in isolated distributed power generation system. In this paper, for off- grid application the frequency and voltage control of SEIG feeding various linear/non linear loads is carried out using Distributed Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) under different prime-mover characteristics. To address the power quality issues such as reactive power, voltage regulation and harmonics reduction etc. Moreover, adaptive theory based Improved Linear Sinusoidal Tracer (ILST) control strategy is employed to operate the DSTATCOM to accomplish the said power quality issues. In addition to it, detailed design of a capacitor which is connected across the auxiliary winding of SEIG to support the self excitation process. The complete system models developed in MATLAB environment with help of SIMULINK and SIM Power System toolbox. The performance analysis of developed model is also carried out in laboratory environment under various loading conditions for steady state and dynamical conditions.
