Abstract

Sign language is a basic tool for those who haven t received the gift of speaking and listening. Normal people generally do not learn sign language to communicate with hearing/speech impaired people. Also, every time these differently abled people cannot keep a human translator with them. This makes a communication gap between normal and hearing/speech impaired people. So to bridge this gap, various sign language translators and recognition techniques have been developed which are discussed in this paper. Also, through various researches done in this field, a general classification of these sign language translators and recognition techniques have been made, as per the taxonomy discussed in the paper, in a tabular form along with the literature review.
