Development of Intelligent Space Lighting System

Abstract

Recently, lighting systems not only provide light but also provide interior design effects and affects the user’s mood. So, Smart bulbs have been introduced that connect the LED bulbs to the network and control the brightness and color of the bulb using smart devices such as smartphone. Also, network connected lighting systems which links LED light with adjacent devices to provide customized service for user convenience and emotional lighting have been introduced. However, previous systems provide limited light control such as turning on or off and color changes based on simple sensor information. In this paper, we propose a context-aware intelligent space lighting system which aware the user environment and context and controls the color, the brightness, and direction of the light. Using the proposed system, we developed smart desk light to show a use case of context-aware intelligent space lighting system. The smart desk lighting adaptively adjusts the color of the light according to the subject a user is studying to improve the learning effect. Also, the smart desk lighting controls direction of the light according to the angle of the book to remove the shadow.
