Severe maternal anaemia, a missed opportunity for prevention
Abstract
In this issue of BJOG, Parks and colleagues from the Global Network for Women s and Children s Health report the results of a large observational cohort of pregnant women from low- and middle-income country settings (LMICs) in India and Pakistan in which they evaluate the prevalence of anaemia during pregnancy and its association with maternal, fetal and neonatal mortality (Parks et\xa0al. BJOG xxxx). The authors take advantage of the Global Network s large community-based pregnancy registry in which key clinical information and outcomes are collected prospectively for all pregnancies in participating geographic clusters. Their analysis includes 92,247 pregnant women delivering during the years 2012 to 2016 with at least one haemoglobin value recorded in the antenatal chart. This article is protected by copyright.
