Intracervical Fibroid Removal: A Myomectomy Reasoned On Biological Bases.
Abstract
Anatomically, the uterine corpus, isthmus and cervix are components of the same organ, but functionally they have different roles during pregnancy and labor. The uterine cervix is mainly composed of connective tissue and extracellular matrix to allow cervical ripening and dilatation to occur with the onset of labour. The cervical innervation and the different neurotransmitters and neuropeptides expression involved in cervical ripening suggest that the cervix plays an important and key role in pregnancy,\xa0labor and delivery1 .
