Hysterectomy and ovarian cancer - further research needed to inform clinical decision-making.

Abstract

Hysterectomy remains a common procedure worldwide, hence better understanding of the long-term health consequences, including for cancer risk, is imperative to enable effective counselling about the risks and benefits of the surgery. At present, the association between hysterectomy and ovarian cancer is unclear. Most earlier studies reported a protective effect, while studies including women diagnosed more recently have not reported a reduction in risk (Jordan SJ et al. Eur J Cancer. 2013 Nov;49(17):3638-47).
